I am going to bet that you have been in a situation, which you are so tired when you leave work that you do not feel like cooking. So you go by the closest fast food place to get your dinner. I will also bet that this situation has happened more then you would like it too. I know some people, who will go to fast food places or order take out 2-3 times a week every week, all because they get off work late or too tired to cook something. So what is the solution to this crisis that may be getting out of control? Well….. it is meal planning, which it is a wonderful solution.
Meal planning is basically having a meal plan. This concept has been around for years and it still amazes me that a majority of people do not use it. Why? So I will explain this amazing thing you can do to prevent yourself from eating fast food for dinner all the time, even when you get off work late or feel too tired to cook. Meal planning helps with healthy meals for you or your family. So before you go to the store, sit down and think of some foods you want to plan to make ahead of time for the following week, this would be weekly meal planning. To get started, you want think of simple and easy meals to prepare fast.
I do meal planning and some of the meals, I make ahead of time are casseroles, chicken, tuna/ chicken salad, pasta and sauce, hamburgers, and soup. These are some suggestions that you can make too.
Not only can you meal plan, but prepare some meals ahead of time to freeze or put in refrigerator. So pick a day like on the weekend to prepare the food. I suggest you pick 2-3 meals (depends on how little or big your family is) to make on a Saturday for instance, and then put the prepared food into containers or Zip- lock bags. Some of the food can be put in the fridge and some can be put into the freezer, that all depends on you. So then the prepared food can be taken out of fridge and be reheated in the microwave for a wonderful meal throughout the week. Also some of this prepared food can be taken to work for your lunches. Which saves you money by not eating out. Wonderful, I say!!!!
If you have not tried meal planning, it is time to start trying it and see how it works in your household. If you work late, are busy parent(s), tired after work, or have another reason why you eat fast food for dinner, then try changing that by meal planning. Mothers, do family meal planning because that will save you from going to the grocery store all the time. Also keep this in mind that meal planning will save you money and allows you to eat better.
